Who are the Ancient Order of Hibernians?
The Ancient Order of Hibernians is an Irish and Irish-American organization that traces its roots back to the 16th century Irish defenders who protected Roman Catholic priests and the Church from English persecution.
Today, the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) is the oldest Irish Catholic fraternal organization in the world. Its motto is "Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity". The organization's goals are to assist in the reunification of Ireland, support the Church, and to promote Irish culture.
The AOH's largest membership is in the United States, where it was founded in New York City in 1836. We, in the AOH, nourish Irish culture (art, dance, music, history, and sports), and our organization has spearheaded many issues concerning the Irish, such as: immigration reform; economic incentives (both in the U.S. and in Ireland); human rights issues; Right-to-Life; as well as a peaceful solution regarding the matters that currently divide Ireland.
